Newtown Community & Cultural Centre

Nau mai haere mai ki te Newtown Community Centre!

About the Centre

Picture

We are a busy and vibrant Community Centre
in the heart of Newtown, Wellington.  We have been an integral part of the Newtown community since our Centre was established in 1977.

The Centre is just a stone's throw from the Newtown shops, on the corner of Colombo and Rintoul Streets.

We host a variety of concerts, gigs,
theatrical performances, exercise and language classes, and cultural activities for our diverse Newtown community.

We run regular school holiday programmes and activities for youth, and are home to a number of community services, including the Wellington Timebank, the Newtown Citizens' Advice Bureau and the Newtown Tool Library.

We also manage Smart Newtown community computer hub, which is located in our Network Newtown building, and the Newtown Hall on Daniell St.

We work with community groups to develop and deliver initiatives that benefit the people of Newtown and surrounding suburbs.  Please don't hesitate to talk to us about how we may be able to support your group within the community!

Our Vision : Enriching community together.

Our Aim : To bring people together to make a great community.

Our Values :
  1. Welcoming, participating and celebrating the diverse vibrant people of our community
  2. Supporting each other to grow and achieve
  3. Have a community where everyone feels safe, involved and belonging

Eryn is the slightly scruffy punk of the Newtown Community Centre – a people person and passionate advocate. She’s got “mad aroha” for inclusion, art, community, music, conversation and laughter. As an artist she loves to make stuff, as NCCC coordinator she loves to make stuff happen!

Annika Bowley
Kaimahi Taiohi - Youth Worker
Pronouns: She/her

Picture
Annika is a youth worker here at NCCC. Fun facts about Annika is that she loves to dance, sing and make fun of herself! She has grown up in Wellington but lived everywhere. From Island bay to Porirua, to Strathmore, Lyall Bay and even the beautiful Newtown. She loves working with our tamariki and rangatahi and thinks there is so much talent out there that needs to be seen. She's looking forward to seeing everyone around and having chats.

Phil works his financial magic and keeps us entertained behind the scenes at the Community Centre.

It is generally agreed that the place would fall to pieces without him.

Sinead Marsh
Kaimahi Taiohi / Youth Worker

Sinead has been in Newtown for a couple of years. Originally from up the line, Tamaki Makaurau /Te Tai Tokerau. Her passions revolve around connection, inclusivity and authentic expression. She has a strong relationship with the earth and dreams of an even stronger connection within the Newtown community. If she’s not at the community centre, hanging out at Newtown School or Newtown Hall, she’s probably sleeping, off having a boogie, doing some gardening or down at the beach.

Alana Kane

Alana enjoys travelling, meeting new people, and learning about the immense cultural diversity that exists both in Aotearoa and all over the world.
